What is Cervical Screening?

Cervical screening checks for abnormal cell changes in the cervix that could develop into cancer. Samples taken at your cervical screening are tested for high-risk HPV, which can cause these changes.

Who Should Get Screened?

If you have a cervix and are aged 25–64, you should receive regular screening invitations from the NHS.

Why is Screening Important?

Cervical cancer often has no symptoms in its early stages, making screening essential for early detection and prevention.

Does the Test Hurt?

The test may feel uncomfortable, but it should not be painful. If you're worried, your GP or nurse can suggest ways to make it easier.

How Often Should You Be Screened?

Screening is typically offered every 3–5 years, depending on your age and previous results.
